Inventory non-human identities across the entire environment. With NHIs outnumbering human users 50 to 1 and 97 percent carrying excessive privileges, most security teams are managing an attack surface they cannot see. Begin with a machine identity discovery exercise covering service accounts, API tokens, CI/CD pipeline credentials, and AI agent credentials. Scope remediation using the principle of least privilege and treat any NHI with cloud resource control as a priority.

Test incident response with board and legal participation, not just technical teams. The Sygnia survey’s finding that 89 percent of CISOs cite limited executive or board participation in IR rehearsals as a readiness gap is directly actionable. Schedule a tabletop exercise this quarter that requires the CEO, General Counsel, and CFO to make decisions in real time. The coordination friction identified as the leading readiness failure cannot be resolved through technical preparation alone.

Expand vendor risk coverage beyond the tier-one supplier list. With 78 percent of organisations admitting their security programmes cover fewer than half their vendor ecosystem, and with AI-driven threats ranked as the top supply chain risk, static annual assessments of named vendors are no longer adequate. Evaluate continuous third-party risk monitoring tools and prioritise vendors with access to cloud environments, AI infrastructure, or sensitive data pipelines.
